Installation:
Mother Earth: Let the Spirit Move
This project was a part of my internship at Kennedy Heights Art Center. βFor the fifth year, Juneteenth Cincinnati and Kennedy Heights Arts Center are teaming up to present Voices of Freedom, a visual and performing arts series examining Black history from a contemporary perspective.β This exhibition was curated by Cynthia Lockhart. Her focus was based on Mother Earth and her love and her symbolism of power.
There was a lot of preparation that went into this exhibition. I worked alongside my boss and mentor, Mallor Feltz, director of exhibitions and public art. She taught me all I need to know for installations and preparations. I was responsible for spackling the walls, sanding, and repainting. After that was complete, Mallory taught me how to install the artwork. I became familiar with the protocol for art handling and installation. I learned the math correlated with the process and how important precision is to create a cohesive space. I worked with the curator to figure out placement of the artwork. This is a huge component for cohesion and flow throughout the exhibition and overall environment.
