Expressions of

Body, Life, and Death

Through the medium of painting, Kiera conveys her experiences of body, life, and death with a distinct focus on primary colors. Each canvas becomes a reflection of her inner journey, where reds, blues, and yellows dominate the landscape. The vividness of these colors embodies the visceral aspects of human experience, representing passion, tranquility, and the complexity of existence.

In her work, she intuitively blends these primary colors, creating dynamic compositions that evoke emotions tied to the cycle of life. The bold strokes and contrasting shades illustrate moments of joy alongside instances of sorrow—an exploration of the duality that defines her understanding of life and death.

Ultimately, through her paintings, she not only shares her journey but invites viewers to reflect on their own experiences of life and the inevitability of death, fostering a deeper connection to the world around them.

Where did my creator go?

Acrylic on Canvas, Oil Pastel, Thread

2024

36" x 36" and 96" x 12"

This series is a reflection of nostalgia, memory, and mourning. I sewed together 12" x 12" raw canvas to create a timeline that represented memories from my childhood that I have reflected on and correlate to death. Loss is a cycle in our never beginning and never ending life. Memories continue legacy. The bouquet is a representation of the bouquet buried with my cousin, Ryan. Decomposition is a part of a cycle as we all are deteriorating. Life ends unexpectedly and it has left me asking where my creator has gone.

This work has been exhibited at the Cincinnati Art Academy, Childlaw Gallery and Kennedy Heights Arts Center

Energy

Oil on Canvas

2023

18" x 24"

For this series, I wanted to focus on the idea of bodies and the space they occupy. I knew I wanted to paint a nude female figure which would be a representation of the female experience. I also knew I wanted to involve another subject to complement the figure. I decided on the skeleton to reflect the woman’s body. I also wanted this to be an experience for the viewer to be forced to think about life and death as well as physical vs the unseen. Our bodies occupy the space, but we never think about the mechanics of the body and what else is occupying the space. This also includes our soul. I wanted to represent the soul but I thought doing that in a literal way would be too on the nose. I decided the background would hold the energy of the soul.

This painting is a reflection of taking strange ideas and making them become real. I had an idea of turtles with human heads and brought them to life. The human form becoming surreal in a light hearted sense.

Hudson Hornet

Oil on Canvas

2024

15" x 30"

This is a series of the Hudson Hornet car. I was intrigued by the form of the car and wanted to study the colors as well as reflective surfaces such as this metal. I studied how color is affected by light and how that creates forms within the figure and gives it life. The body of the car is transformed  into light and reflections .
